Cake for breakfast - why not?

While eating cake for breakfast might not seem like the healthiest choice, it can actually be a good way to keep your weight down by giving you a healthy boost of protein and fats. Having something sweet can also help quell cravings for sugary snacks through the day and make you less likely to binge on sweets later on. Here are some cakes to try if you want to try having cake for breakfast.

Cheesecake

Cheesecakes tend to be high in protein and fats from the combination of eggs and cream cheese. This helps to make this a filling choice. Cheesecakes can often be high in sugar, though, so try to find one that has a lower level of sugar. It's often good to look for cheesecakes with natural sweetening through flavourings such as berries or pumpkin. It's also good to look for options that have extra healthy fats through nuts and other toppings such as coconut shavings.

Carrot cake

Carrot cake is also a good option for breakfast cake as it tends to be high in fibre and protein, which can help you to feel fuller for longer. The cake gets its fibre from the carrot and dried fruit, healthy fats from nuts and the cream cheese used in the traditional icing. Healthy oils such as olive oils are often used to give the carrot cake its moist and delicious texture. Again, some cakes do use excessive amounts of sugar, so look for cakes that gain sweetness primarily from the fruit and carrots.

Banana bread

While it's named after a bread, banana bread tends to be closest to a cake in nutrition. It uses a combination of overripe bananas and flour and eggs to create a moist and tasty dish with a healthy kick of fibre, natural sugars and protein. In order to keep it filling, it's a good idea to check for options that use whole wheat flours and healthy oils such as olive oil or coconut oil to keep this a healthy option. Many banana bread recipes also use other ingredients to add texture, such as raspberries or nuts, which can also make this an even healthier choice.

If you are looking to have some guilt-free cake for breakfast, why not head into your local cake store and check the nutritional labels on the cake. Finding a healthy cake you can eat for breakfast could be a good way to indulge your inner child while keeping your health goals.

Welcome to my blog. My name is Elizabeth Martin, and I have always loved to cook. The right food can be cheering or comforting, or it can provide a new perspective on culture and culinary methods. In this blog, I plan to write about cooking and food, and I plan to cover it from a range of angles. I am married, and we have one son, Toby. He is three now and starting to try new foods, and I may write some blogs on cooking for little ones as well. I hope that you like these posts. Thank you for reading!
